Kathleen Reyes is a Calgary-based lawyer who specializes in youth criminal defence. Her work in the area began in 2006 when she joined the Youth Criminal Defence Office in Calgary. Her staff lawyer position evolved into being a member of the Criminal Trial Group within Legal Aid Alberta in 2020. In 2024, Kathleen made the decision to launch her own practice.

As a subject matter expert in the area of youth criminal defence, Kathleen has presented to a variety of different audiences on topics and issues within youth criminal defence including, but not limited to: high school classes, law school classes, provincial child welfare caseworkers, and webinars developed for the general public. As a litigator in criminal defence with a youth specialty, giving clients the knowledge to empower them to make informed choices on their files is a key part of Katheen’s advocacy on behalf of her clients.

Prior to finding her passion in youth defence, Kathleen gained experience in intellectual property, contracts, legislative review, and privacy issues working within the legislative branch of a provincial ministry. While she continues to maintain that there is a beauty to be found in a well-drafted document and she enjoyed drafting and reviewing contacts, memoranda of understanding, and legislative amendments, litigation work brings her joy.

Kathleen actively enjoys mentoring younger lawyers in the profession and sharing her knowledge with colleagues seeking consults. Sharing with others about why youth criminal defence is a fascinating area of law to delve into is part of what makes Kathleen passionate about law.

Currently, Kathleen practices in Calgary and the surrounding area. She is available for presentations and professional consultations by request via phone/text message at (825) 258-5299 or through discussions that begin with book a 30 minute intake meeting.
